"I always joke with couples," Scott says, "the girls start getting ready at eight in the morning, and the guys have pictures at two-thirty. So they start getting ready at two. That's a lot of hours to fill — and we want those hours to be just as memorable as the ceremony itself."

The Vincent Homestead frequently does skeet shooting as a wedding add-on — it's been one of the most popular groomsmen activities. But this summer, the experience got a major upgrade.

Thanks to Maddox Fletcher, a Texas A&M student who joined The Vincent Homestead as a summer ranch intern, the property now features an expanded shooting range opportunity that runs from pistol distance all the way out to 450 yards.

Here's what the range looks like today:

Pistol and rifle range (15–100 yards): Start up close on the pistol range and work your way back to the 100-yard bench for rifle sighting. A three-gong steel setup — eight inch, six inch, and four inch — gives you that satisfying audio feedback that paper targets just can't match.

Long range steel (out to 450 yards):  Maddox sourced and built these himself, partnering with a local welder to fabricate the stands. This is where things get memorable. Pull the trigger on a rifle target at 450 yards and wait for the sound to come back. That two-second delay before you hear the ping is one of those experiences that's hard to describe until you feel it.

Life-sized steel animal targets: The lineup currently includes a hog, a coyote, and an axis deer — all life-sized steel targets with vital zone cutouts for realistic shot placement practice. They're set at varying distances across the property and rotated based on what the group wants to work on. The Experience — Safe, Guided, and Unforgettable All shooting activities at The Vincent Homestead are scheduled in advance and facilitated by a dedicated on-site safety coordinator. Every session includes:

• Hearing and eye protection for all participants

• A waiver signing and full safety debrief before anyone touches a firearm

• Guided instruction on safe loading, handling, and range protocol

• A controlled, private environment — no crowded lanes, no strangers, no range officers yelling
  

Whether your group are seasoned shooters who bring their own guns or first-timers who've never pulled a trigger, the experience is designed to meet everyone where they are.

"We've had guys who own every gun in the catalog," Scott says, "and guys who'd never shot before. The safety coordinator is there to make sure everyone has a great time and does it the right way."

It's Not Just the Range The shooting experience is one piece of a larger picture at The Vincent Homestead. On a typical wedding Saturday, a group of groomsmen might:

• Fish for Florida hybrid black bass — currently up to five pounds — in the on-property lake

• Take a dip in the pool or swim in the lake

• Set up at the saloon with cigars, corn hole, and the grill going

• Schedule a range session before lunch

• Take a ride around the 142-acre property in the side-by-side to see the whitetail deer that roam the ranch

"We want to feed that part of a man's soul that thrives outdoors — the part that comes alive when there's land to explore and something to aim at." Scott says. "Riding around on a side-by-side in the country, shooting steel targets, pulling a big fish out of the lake, seeing trophy deer in the field — that's a beautiful experience. And I love seeing the guys get just as excited about the weekend as the bride."

Part of Something Bigger

The shooting activities are the first glimpse of a larger outdoor experience The Vincent Homestead is building. The property runs elite trophy whitetail genetics — four-and-a-half-year-old bucks in the 225-plus Boone and Crockett range — and a full hunting experience package is currently in development for the 2026-2027 season.

"We're not a volume operation," Scott says. "We're 'experience' based and service based. Whether it's a wedding weekend or a hunting weekend, we want every guest to feel like they're the only ones on the property."
